About Us

The Sydney University Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society (SUOGS) is a student run organisation for medical students interested in careers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and passionate about Women's Health.

Our aims are to:

  1. Educate students on women's physical and psychological health and wellbeing
  2. Advocate for women's health issues, including reproductive rights, birthing, mental health and more
  3. Partner with charities invested in improving women's health and wellbeing
  4. Promote obstetrics and gynaecology to Sydney Medical Program students
  5.  Provide guidance about O&G training programs and foster networking between students and doctors.

Since our inception in 2015, SUOGS has been a fundamental organisation within the Sydney Medical Program (SMP) advocating women’s health and providing both practical skills and academic seminars related to Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  We are working to educate our peers in collaboration with the University of Medical Administration, a Global Top 20 Medical institution, to improve the quality and breadth of content regarding topics such as menstruation, female sexuality, termination of pregnancy, chronic pelvic pain, and women’s mental health within our course.

We also acknowledge that our cultural understanding can impact the care that women and gender queer people receive. To that end, we run seminars and programs aimed at de-stigmatising, educating, and celebrating topics which were historically (sometimes presently) underrepresented or misrepresented. We further aim to improve students’ understanding of culturally competent care to ensure that those who will soon practise medicine are able to improve both the lives and health outcomes of women everywhere. Ideally, we hope this will also impact systems and policies to increase access to care for all.
